This is my 25th blog post of 2025, and I wanted to use the opportunity to re-introduce myself.
Who Am I?
My name is Charlotte, and I’m a blogger in her 30s who loves travel. I moved from Canada to London over a decade ago, and since then, I’ve been using the proximity to a lot of other European cities to travel as much as possible.
It hasn’t always been easy for me to travel—a lack of money, and confidence travelling solo in my 20s, were definitely impediments to exploring the world. But now, with a few years behind me and a lot more knowledge, I’m pouring what I know about travel into this blog, No Small Wander.
What do I know about travelling, anyway?
The more I learn, the more I realize I don’t know about the world; but I like to think that I have learned a few things in my years travelling!
Mostly, that travel forces us to grow as people by putting us in situations that are uncomfortable, unfamiliar, and challenging. That travel works best when you focus less on what it “should” look like, and focus on following your own joy. And it doesn’t need to adhere to anyone else’s standards, or budget, to be enjoyable.
I’ve been lucky enough to live in two countries, and visit many, many more—and now I’m looking to expand my travels even further! I try to focus on the joys of travel; I love sewing my own clothes, bullet journalling, fashion/skincare, and seeing the beauty of the world through art and nature. These are the things that I prioritize when I travel—little moments of joy where I can lean in to the things I love.
I try to be mindful when I travel; I make my mental health a priority, and as someone who has dealt with mental health lapses travelling, I’m hoping I can help other people who get anxious about travelling get through the hard stuff.
Mindfulness also means being mindful of where I’m going; observing the customs and cultures of the people who make travel possible by living in the places I visit, and ensuring that I’m aware of the environmental impact of our trips. (I’m not claiming to be a perfect person in this sense; I’ve absolutely made missteps in both these categories. But I’m trying to learn and grow into as conscientious traveller as I can!)
What will you find on No Small Wander?
Lots of things! Including:
- Highlights from my recent trips; products or services I liked, experiences I’d recommend, and features I think should be highlighted
- Advice on how to build trips and tours that you’ll love
- Insights from someone who travels regularly; tips on how to travel cheaply and safely, what I think the trends in travel will be, and new services I’m trying out.
- Personal stories about my triumphs (and failures!) whilst travelling, so that you can avoid making the same mistakes I have
- London-specific content; as it’s currently where I call home, and it can change so often, I’ll be posting regularly about things to do in the city.
Where can you find me?
